Professional Negligence Lawyers

Professional negligence is a specific area of tort law that involves claims against members of professions that are regulated by law, a governing body, or some other professional standards.

The types of claims usually made against a lawyer are missed limitation periods, improvident or incorrect advice, improvident settlement of a claim (settled for too little or without proper written instructions), and technical errors of law.

Medical malpractice claims require a finding that the standard of care has not been met. This standard is dictated by the medical profession. To prove a case, expert opinion is required. If you feel the standard of care has not been met, you may complete the following actions, depending on circumstances:

• File a complaint with the College of Physician and Surgeons of Nova Scotia
• File a complaint with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia
• File a complaint with the hospital
• Speak to your family doctor, immediately
